This is CRAIG DELL… Not some bio about Craig.
Like you, I wear many hats on a daily basis. To name a few, I am a father to my sweet and rambunctious son, husband to my beautiful and brilliant wife, son to my spirited parents, business owner and leader to the spectacular team at Craig Dell Attorneys, lawyer to thousands of past and present clients, educator to those who seek knowledge, friend to all and trusted advisor to many.
Perplexed by the fact that most people do not have life or estate plans because (1) they don’t have the time to create a plan, (2) they don’t think they have an estate to worry about (3) and/or they don’t understand it, coupled with witnessing first hand the devastation that can result from not having a proper plan in place, I decided to establish a life/estate planning law practice.
At Craig Dell Attorneys we concentrate our practice in the areas of life planning, estate planning, elder law, wills, trusts, probate and trust administration, protecting assets from nursing homes, litigating against long term care/life insurance carriers and probate disputes.
I call what we do at Craig Dell Attorneys life planning because that is what we do day in and day out. We help individuals, families and business owners, just like you, plan for the certainties and uncertainties that life throws at us.
You want to know you have made the best decisions for your family and that your plan will work when your loved ones need it most. You want to make sure your children or loved ones will be taken care of in the best way possible financially and emotionally in the event anything was to happen to you. My job is to make sure this gets done pursuant to your wishes.
I spend the vast majority of my time meeting with individuals and families to educate and create personalized life plans. My primary focus is protecting families from the devastating legal effects of disability and death. My creative problem solving ability makes me a great asset in the courtroom and in the office. On a limited basis, you will find me in the courtroom litigating estate disputes, tax controversies and long term care insurance policy denials.
Monthly, I or someone from the firm hosts seminars, workshops, talks and panel discussions on a variety of estate planning and elder law topics. If you are interested in having me speak at an event, please call the office at 801-783-2515.
I have appeared on NBC as a legal expert, and my cases have been profiled on other major networks. Our law firm is one of two firms in the state of Utah to be selected as a member of the American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys. For over 20 years, the Academy has been a highly-regarded and sought-after resource for attorneys and consumers alike, and has been recognized by Consumer Reports, Suze Orman in her book, 9 Steps to Financial Freedom and numerous times by Money Magazine. The Academy is a national organization dedicated to promoting excellence in estate planning by providing its exclusive membership of attorneys with up-to-date research on estate and tax planning, educational materials, and other important resources to empower them to provide superior estate planning services.
Named as a Legal Elite by Florida Trend Magazine, in 2011, 2012 and 2013, I have been recognized by my peers as a proven attorney. I am a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, Utah State Bar Elder Law and Estate Planning/Probate sections, Utah Association for Justice, American Association for Justice and Trial Lawyers section of the Florida Bar.
A Florida native and current Utahn (we moved our family to Utah for the love of the mountains), I am admitted to practice in Utah, Florida, New York and Washington, D.C.. Additionally, I am authorized to practice in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida, Federal Tax Court and I am a Department of Veteran Affairs accredited attorney and admitted to practice before the Court of Appeals for Veteran Claims.
I earned my undergraduate degree from Bentley College in finance and accounting prior to receiving my Juris Doctor degree, with honors, from St. Thomas University School of Law, and Masters of Tax Laws from the University of Miami. The LL.M. (Master of Laws) is an internationally recognized postgraduate law degree. I obtained an LL.M. in taxation in order to deepen my understanding of the tax ramifications faced by businesses and individuals to create easy solutions to complex and difficult transactions.
I began my legal career as a Prosecutor for the 17th Judicial Circuit in and for Broward County, Florida where I gained experience in all facets of trial and litigation. Before joining the firm, I prosecuted a range of crimes from driving under the influence to armed robbery. Prosecuting misdemeanors and felonies gave me invaluable insight and skills into strategies and tactics in trial practice.
After leaving the Prosecutor’s Office, I effortlessly transitioned into civil practice and dedicated my earlier legal career to combating for the rights of individuals against insurance companies. I have resolved thousands of cases throughout the country, resulting in millions of dollars recovered on behalf of my clients. By developing strong relationships with clients, I am able to serve as their advocate in and out of the courtroom, taking into account the different circumstances of each case. My integrity and skills as a litigator have guided countless clients to positive, practical, and cost-efficient results
My involvement in educational and charitable organizations includes roles on the Board of Directors of Lawyers Project, Best Buddies (business buddies), Margaux’s Miracle Foundation, and Museum of Contemporary Art (moca shakers). Furthermore, I founded Lawyers Project, a philanthropic exchange program that aims to maximize charitable acts through members leading and participating in community service projects, attending networking events, and providing volunteer legal services.
Whether it’s leading a team of lawyers on creating an emergency Medicaid plan or training for a half Iron Man, I find pleasure through calmly solving problems and keeping my wits about myself as I take care of business. When not in the office, I enjoy reading with my son, skiing, traveling and eating cheeseburgers.
